A Safer Way to Share Links Online

Short links are convenient, but convenience should never come at the cost of trust. Because a short address does not display the full destination, the person who creates it has an added responsibility to use it carefully.

Share only destinations you trust

Open the final destination before shortening it. Confirm that the domain is correct, the page loads securely, and the content is appropriate for the audience. Do not shorten links received from unknown sources without checking them first.

Describe the destination honestly

Give people context near every link. A sentence such as “Download the event schedule” or “Read the product documentation” is much more helpful than “Click here.” Honest context is especially important in email, messaging apps, and social networks where people may be cautious about unfamiliar addresses.

Avoid deceptive practices

Never use shortened links for phishing, account-harvesting pages, malware downloads, unwanted subscription offers, or misleading advertising. Do not disguise one kind of content as another. These practices damage visitors, harm the reputation of a domain, and can lead to the link being disabled.

Keep destinations current

Broken links are frustrating and reduce confidence. Review links used in profiles, printed material, recurring emails, and paid campaigns. If a destination has moved, update it when the new page serves the same purpose; otherwise, retire the link and publish a clear replacement.

Use reporting tools

If you encounter a LinkTool address that appears unsafe or deceptive, use the site reporting option or contact support with the full short URL and a short explanation. Reports help us review abuse and protect other visitors.

Trust is earned one click at a time. Clear labels, legitimate destinations, and timely maintenance make short links useful for everyone.
